Nowa Huta

Just a few kilometers from Kraków’s Main Square lies a completely different world – Nowa Huta. This district was designed by the communist authorities as a model city for the workers of the steelworks and quickly grew on the fields surrounding Kraków. Today, it impresses with its architectural scale and symbolic history.

Walk through Nowa Huta – Tracing Socialist Realism and Resistance

During the walk, we’ll take a close look at monumental buildings in the style of Socialist Realism, full of details inspired by various architectural styles. We’ll explore squares, avenues, and housing estates designed for the citizens of the new state and learn what daily life looked like in this “ideal” reality. We’ll also visit a Cold War-era bunker, where you can feel the atmosphere of preparations for another world war.

Nowa Huta – a fascinating part of Kraków worth discovering

On this guided tour, we’ll hear stories about the ideology imposed on Poles, but also about the resistance of residents who dared to oppose the regime. We’ll learn about protests, the fight for freedom and independence, and the people whose courage helped bring change to the entire country.
